Earwax is located within the canals of the ear and is produced by the body with the sole purpose of protecting them. Also referred to as cerumen, experts have found out that it has both lubricating and anti-bacterial properties.
The earwax protects the ears from external elements such as dust, foreign particles and microorganisms. Apart from that, it also protects the sensitive areas of the ear from water, which causes irritation.
However, the human body has been found to produce more cerumen than it needs, therefore leading to the formation of hard substance that blocks the ear. Even during cleaning, one can end up pushing the wax deeper into the ear canal therefore causing a build up.
Causes of Earwax Build Up
There are several things that lead to earwax build up and some of them include too much production by the body and use of cleaning cotton items, which pushes it back into the ear. Other causes include use of hearing aids and headphones for a long period of time.
